Alicia Martin is a Spanish artist that has a special flair for book art. This impressive installation by Alicia is entitled “Biografias” which in English means biographies.

This beautiful old building is built on the backdrop of a water way, perhaps the inspiration for these real books she has constructed in a way so as to look like a waterfall, flowing out of the building.

Martin is not only an artist, but also an illusionist. The books are held together perfectly, but loosely, allowing them some freedom of movement with the passing breeze, so as to give the illusion of flowing water.

I am impressed with Alicia Martin’s massive waterfall of knowledge from such a characteristic old building. Martin’s waterfall illusion to me, represents the ever increasing flow of knowledge into our world. How we have moved forward from old ideas and technology, to the massive information overload we now have in modern society, assisted largely by the Google.  Alicia has provided a beautiful home for all those outdated old books.

Alicia’s perfect illusion of a mass of books flowing out of the window of an old Spanish window is a great feat in itself, but Alicia hasn’t wasted any books in constructing this visual display. You would never guess looking at it, that the inside of Alicia’s installation is completely hollow.

This is underground parking with a twist! This formerly fully functioning vintage car has been integrated in a very modern, and stylish secluded underground home in Holland.

There is no engine in the car anymore, nor any messy oils or brake fluid. It has been cleverly blended in with the contemporary modern look of the room it stands in.

The room whilst of unusual, and irregular dimensions in floor space, and height, smacks of sleek lines, and elegance. The prestigious looking vintage car has been fitted perfectly where there is a striking difference in the ceiling level. Making it look it look as though it had been deliberately cut to shape with a vintage automobile in mind.

The colours, and beautiful chrome finish on this Jaguar car blend well in this room. As you can see the roof has been removed to reveal the sumptuous leather upholstery one would expect to see in such a luxurious classic car, creating a feeling of vintage quality.

The vintage car is not just for ornamental purposes, but has been made into a showcase vintage display cabinet, with shelves integrated. The lower section of this vintage Jaguar is now a cabinet with closing doors, for storing things.

This style overall is very interesting. The living accommodation won’t be to everyone’s taste, unless you are passionate about old classic cars.
